Community shows Seahawks pride and supports Seattle Children’s

It’s Seahawks mania all around the city of Seattle and for good reason – they are going to the big game this Sunday! The Seahawks have long been friends of Seattle Children’s Hospital, visiting our patients annually around the holidays during their Captain’s Blitz. This year, our incredible relationship with quarterback Russell Wilson has also helped to grow our relationship with the Hawks and allowed for Seattle Children’s to benefit from many initiatives around the city due to the success of the team.

Here’s a quick recap of what’s happening this week in support of Seattle Children’s, and how the hospital and our community is showing Hawks pride.

Alaska Airlines’s 12th Fan Airlift

Alaska Airlines is donating more than five million miles to help patients and families who can’t afford airfare, come to Seattle Children’s to receive care. The airline auctioned first class tickets for the first-ever “tailgate party in the sky” on a special charter flight to New Jersey that will take place on Saturday, Feb. 1. Alaska Airlines and MVP® Gold and Gold 75K members contributed miles to win a seat. In all, more than two million miles were raised from the winning bids and were matched by Alaska Airlines and donated to Seattle Children’s.

Alaska also extended its support of Seattle Children’s during the 2013 football season by donating 100,000 miles for each touchdown Russell assisted or made in every regular game. The airline will increase this for the big game and donate 200,000 miles to Seattle Children’s for assists or touchdowns made by the star quarterback. A big thank you to Alaska Airlines.

Star 101.5 ticket auction

Radio station STAR 101.5 held a 2-hour auction on Jan. 27 for a pair of tickets to the big game. The highest bidder, Ratio, received the tickets for $5,500 which will be donated to Seattle Children’s. Thank you Kent Phillips for donating your tickets and supporting our patients and families.

Seahawks car auction

Want to ride in style? A Seahawks-themed car (see photos) will be auctioned off over the next week, with all the proceeds going to Seattle Children’s.

Seahawks billboards

Seattle Children’s billboards are posted around Seattle using donated billboard space from Total Outdoor. Billboards feature Seattle Children’s patients in Seahawks gear with a thank you message to the Seahawks and fans, directing people to www.seattlechildrens.org/gohawks where they can donate to Seattle Children’s. Billboard locations include Lynwood, Federal Way and Mill Creek.

Also, as you probably heard, the Seahawks-49ers rivalry has heated up and has led to something much greater where fans from the two teams have been ‘competing’ to see who can raise the most money for Seattle Children’s and UCSF Benioff Children’s Hospital in San Francisco. So far, Seahawks fans have raised more than $259,000 for UCSF Benioff and 49ers fans have raised more than $161,000 for Seattle Children’s. Thank you 49ers fans and Seattle’s 12th man for supporting our patients and families.

Seattle Children’s thanks the Seattle Seahawks and the 12th man for being our champions. With the support of the community, everyone wins!
