Seattle Children’s has appointed Dr. Shaquita Bell as senior medical director of Odesa Brown Children’s Clinic in south Seattle, where she has served for nearly 16 years. The organization also named Dr. Kenisha Campbell as medical director at the clinic.

Bell will lead OBCC in the Central District and the new clinic at Othello Square, which is slated to open in March. Both doctors will have roles at the two locations.

Bell was interim senior director at OBCC for the last five months, overseeing the clinic’s medical services for the community, including medical, dental and behavioral. Her role begins immediately.

Campbell currently serves as director of Outpatient Clinical Operations in the Division of Adolescent Medicine at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. She will join Seattle Children’s on May 9.

Caring for the community

Bell said she’s looking forward to continuing to serve in her role at OBCC, where she practiced as a resident and later as an attending physician.

“I have always been interested in community health,” Bell said. “I am committed to providing care to all regardless of their insurance status, ability to pay, their gender identity, sexual identity, language, culture, or any other box that society puts people in.”

Bell has been an advocate for the community since she started at the clinic in 2006.

“As a pediatrician who has had the pleasure of practicing at OBCC these last 15 years, I see what community means to our younger generation, and I would like to continue to support and invest in our communities.”

Bell earned her medical degree from the University of Minnesota Medical School and completed her residency in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Washington School of Medicine, where she is now a clinical professor in the Division of General Pediatrics. She also served as medical director for Seattle Children’s Center for Diversity and Health Equity.

She is passionate about improving the standard of care and quality of life of the broader community, especially vulnerable populations.

As medical director at OBCC, Campbell will lead clinical care and operations for both OBCC locations.

Campbell earned her MD at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, Missouri, and an associate professor of pediatrics at the University of Pennsylvania. She also has a Master of Public Health from the University of Cincinnati.

Fueled by her passion to dismantle racism in healthcare, Campbell founded and leads CHOP’s Division of Adolescent Medicine’s Anti-racism, Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Taskforce and spearheaded the development of a curriculum on racism for CHOP’s Department of Pediatrics’ Diversity Curriculum Series.

“My vision is that our patients and families can be confident that they will always receive care that is compassionate, equitable and just, and they will have the joy and satisfaction of being cared for by providers that reflect who they are,” Campbell said. “I strive to ensure that each interaction I have with my patients, families and colleagues demonstrates these values.”

Campbell has substantial experience providing high-quality patient care in primary care, subspecialty care and inpatient care. She has also led numerous clinical quality improvement projects relating to reproductive healthcare and transitioning to adult care in a primary care setting.
